Second Day of Filming

21/12/11

REVIEW OF OUR SECOND DAY OF FILMING

Wednesday we went down to Brighton sea front to the Bench Huts to film our sea front scenes. These scenes are the stitching that tie all our characters back stories together.

We filmed with our main male prtagonist, Aidan (Right)

We also decided to film some different views that were available from the huts to give a sense of the environment around him.

Whereas filsmw ould normally have an establishing shot at the beggining of the film, often before any action, we have establishing shots of our protagonists' location throughout the piece.

Filming some establsihing shots of Brighton Pier

We also decided to experiment with some new kind of shot movements that we had not previously used in our prelim. work or thriller opening at AS Level:

* We used a tracking shot, combined as a point of view shot from our male protagonist as he watche sthe other characters walk past. Example of a famous successful tracking shot in the film 'Children of Men' in the link above!

* We also filmed another tracking shot using a Steadicam technique to follow our male protagonist along the Brighton sea front as he walks into the distance. Examples of professional steadicam work can be found in the link above!!!!

EXAMPLE OF THE STEADICAM/TRACKING SHOT IN 'CHILDREN OF MEN' DISPLAYED IN SCREEN SHOTS BELOW:

* In terms of location we used the same bench hut location as we did in our previous days filming (See previous blog entry HERE)

* We of course used this to keep to rules of continuity as the piece would not make sense if the location was to change mid-way through the film, an error we made in our prelim.

* Continuity is of course a very important part of our piece and where continuity is broken can lead to an unrealistic representation in our film. Continuity errors do still occur in even big budget films. Examples of continuity mistakes in the film 'TROY' are included HERE

* We still have a the last few scenes left to film for our piece. These however will be filmed in Chelwood Gate in my house. Location research for these scenes cana lso be found in a preious blog entries HERE

* HOWEVER progress is going well and we feel that we have a lot of given footage for when it comes to the editting process!
