'Submarine' - Richard Ayoade, 2010
Genre-
* From the poster we can guess that this is most likely a comedy/drama at first.
* The male protagonosit displayed on his own depicts that we are going to hear his story displaying the drama in this film but also the film language within the reviews also suggest that his story is a comedy.
* He is poisitioned on his own and there are no other surroundings or characters around him. This could depict his lonliness and the drama we encounter as he deals with his lonliness
* The colour in the poster is bright.
* The title uses red, yellow and white as well as light blue and these lighter colours depict the lighter mood in the film. This could be used to depict a comedy.

Representation-
* The male protagonist is represented to look fearful. His facial expression provides an expression of not great fear but maybe concern of the daunting events ahead in the story.
* In terms of costumer his collar is quite high, about level to his ears. This large coat couldbe enought to hide in and this ability to hide could display the male prtagonist as a shy or fearful character.
* His school shirt and tie also added onto this could depict him as a scared school child. This could link into the narrative; he could be a bullied school boy?
Narrative-
* In terms of narrative the audience are left a lot to the imagination as to what this film could contain.
* However the use of high key lighting and bright colours depict the light hearted mood and suggest that this film could be a lighthearted comedy.
* His expression is a daunted and slightly fearful one and if the colours had been darker an dthe loghting low key it would have appeared more sinister and could have depicted a genre of horror or thriller.
* As the film is called submarine and he himself is half submerged in water the title submarine could latch some ideas as to what his character could be like. Like a submarine he may hide underwater and could be a shy or secluded character.
Target Audience-
* In terms of target audience the poster seems aimed at those who are of the same age as the male protagonist; 13-16 year old boys.
* As he is the only character on the poster it would be less appeasling to different people e.g. if he was paired with a girl and an elderly person on the poster then girl and elderly people may be able to relate as well. However it only feature sthe male protagonist so would logically mainlya ppeal to males of that age.
* The film however would also appeal to readers of the magazines and newspapers that reviewed the film positively;
News of the World, (No Longer in Circulation check link for NoTW wiki page)
Empire and
* All these popular newspapers and magazines provide a huge range in audiences for the film and this could mean therefore that 'Submarine' could appeal to the young film fan reading Empire or Little White Lies or to the independant working woman reading Glamour
