Another element of our anciliary task is to make a film review for our piece that will appear in the established film review magazine; 'Little White Lies' (link in the name to the magazines official site)
Little White Lies gives regular updates in their printed magazine (example shown in the above) about the latest film releases, reviews and best new films of coming year.
Our task is to write a review of our film in the house style and langauge style of a L.W.L review.
Here is an example of a Little White Lies film review from a recent film 'Intruders' directed by Jaun Carlos (trailer below)

* LWL reviews usually feature complicated lexis in their writing. This establishes the kind of audience LWL aims at; the well educated, film fanatic who would not be unfamiliar with film langauge. An example from the INTRUDERS review is below:
'Poor Clive Owen. When is he going to break the cycle of playing harried, fleece-wearing everymen and actually deliver a bold, meaty character turn to justify his (premature?) augmentation into the acting A-list?'
* This compound sentence is a large amount to digest, especially being the opening sentecne of the review. Featuring a lot of adjectives; harried, fleece-wearing, bold, meaty. The articles use a lot of these decribing words so that in the small 400 word structure that LWL regularily use they can create a detailed enough picture of the film in the audience's heads.
* The LWL reviews always end on a scoring system at the end of their articles. This helps to summarise the film quality quickly.
Anticipation:
However LWL scoring system is different and unconventional to the film scoring systems most magazines will use. Most will analyse the film but sum it up in a out-of-5 or out-of-10 rating. Possible making it easier to put on a film poster.
However LWL reviews seem to go much deeper than giving a film just a number. The film is rate don three catagories;
Anticipation; how much hype or excitement there has been surrounding the film prior to seeing it.
Enjoyment; this deals with how good the film was at the time of it being watched
In Retrospect; This last catagory helps to give an overview of the film after time had passed from seeing it.
In this example, Carlos' INTRUDERS did not do too well only scoring a maximum of 2 out of 5 in any catagory. However it is a very useful insight into the structural layout of a LWL review which will be invaluable in writing our own film reviews
